Melanie works two days a week in Strategic and Emergency Communications with the WA Department of Fire and Emergency Services.
She graduated from Murdoch University with a double major in Japanese and Communication Studies in 2000, going on to work as a Japanese interpreter. She is also a User Analyst for Grackledocs, testing websites and apps for compatibility with her assistive technology.
Melanie loves writing, doing bonsai, attending concerts and events, enjoying time at home, and looking after her retired assistance dog, Upton. She loves her partner James and is writing a memoir about falling in love.
In 2023 Melanie won the Discovery Awards by submitting a video of her pointer stick and how it helps her do many tasks. She won a trip to Vienna to attend the Zero Project Conference in 2024. She is now the ambassador for growing the awards in the pacific region.
